21st ANNIVERSARY
CONCERT
We celebrated the
Project's 21st year of operation with a super concert held at St
Giles Church Exhall on March 24th 2007. It featured
Cantabile, a Youth Choir from Nuneaton and Warwick's own Poet
Laureate
Helen
Yendall.
Helen wrote a poem
especially for the occasion and it is reproduced below:-
The Child In The Corner
There’s a child in the corner of the room
Shrouded in shadow, lost in the gloom.
He stands by, while other kids play,
He’s left out of laughter, day after day.
In every way, he’s felt the pinch.
Bang a door, drop a cup,
and he’ll flinch.
He’s so tired of trying to be strong.
He’s different, he knows it,
He doesn’t belong.
It is cold in his corner, the winter winds bite,
Will you not take his hand, bring him into the light?
He can barely recall when this darkness began
How will this leave its mark, when the boy is a man?
He doesn’t need cash or trainers that flash
But someone with time to spend.
There’s a gap: he is lacking,
a comrade, some backing.
The one thing he needs is a friend.

The only way we are able to
make a difference to disadvantaged children's lives is
by having the funding to enable our Older Friends to treat
them to outings. These outings are often free - a walk
in the park, a visit to the local library etc - but some of
them cost money - a visit to the theatre or cinema, ice
skating, the Wacky Warehouse etc. Also we need to
recruit new volunteers all the time and this often has a
cost attached - advertising is never cheap!
This is where our donors are so
essential! Listed below are the organisations and
individuals that have made donations to the Friendship
Project. Sometimes the donation is small, other times
large. But as Tesco says "Every Little Helps"!
Please click on their logo to
find more about the particular organisation and our thanks
go out to them all for their generous support. |
